Brandon, Booe, Johnson, Jones Family Scholarships
Information and Application

College and Graduate Scholarship Programs

Blessed with a history that deeply values education and with the generosity of four families in our community of faith, King Moravian Church now has four scholarships for students to continue their educational journey whether at a technical or trade school, community college, or university. Each scholarship is a one-time annual award for college students who are members in good standing at King Moravian Church and who have been accepted by an accredited institution for the upcoming school year. Preference is given to those expressing a financial need. Each award will be made payable to the institution of higher learning, half paid in the fall semester and half paid in the spring semester. Scholarship applications will be available at the Church Office beginning March 1st and must be returned no later than May 1st.

Isaac and Mary Ella Booe Scholarship

Award $1000

Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate studies

Isaac and Mary Ella Booe and their three daughters lived in the brick house beside the current Church Office and were active members of King Moravian Church, serving on the church boards. Dr. Booe was a dentist and had an office on the 2nd floor of the King Drug Store building. The Booe’s were very passionate about education and were the first to start a scholarship at King Moravian.

S. Braxton Brandon Scholarship

Award $500

Eligibility: Undergraduate studies

The Brandon family were members of King Moravian Church.  Mr. Brandon “felt that education and church participation were essential in developing a whole, vital person. He made knowledge, giving of his time and energy, and love of God the foundation for his life and work.” Mr. Brandon served as the Extension Agent for Stokes County and worked with local farmers.  His wife, Mrs. Irene Brandon, taught school and together they had one daughter.

Jones Family Scholarship

Award $500

Eligibility: Undergraduate and Graduate studies

The Jones Family have been long-time members of King Moravian Church, serving the church in many ways. In recent years, the family created a scholarship to honor the legacy of their grandparents, Reid and Dorothy Jones, and their parents, Dr. Joseph Reid and Mrs. Carolyn Turner Jones, who served the community through their medical practice in King for thirty-eight years. Dr. Jones also served on the Stokes County Board of Education. Honoring their family’s passion for education and service, the new Jones Family Scholarship will benefit the next generation of learners. “To whom much is given, much will be required.” Luke 12:48
